We are seeking a visionary Chief ALM & Investment Actuary to lead our ALM strategies for the life insurance company especially for participating (par) funds and play a critical role in shaping the financial outcomes for our company, under the HKRBC and IFRS 17 frameworks. This position sits within the Investment & ALM Department and reports directly to Department Head of Investment and ALM.

This is a unique opportunity for senior actuary in ALM to step beyond traditional ALM into the investment activities of the insurance company, working closely with the in-house investment portfolio managers and macro strategists.

What the role is ?

• Lead ALM strategies especially for the par fund, optimizing asset-liability matching, SAA/TAA, hedging, and surplus management to ensure long-term policyholder and shareholder value creation.

• Pioneer innovative methodologies in par fund management, including comprehensive scenario analysis, stress testing, and the development of forward-looking surplus management frameworks to enhance financial stability and policyholder value.
• Formulate long-term investment planning by integrating ALM insights, regulatory requirements (HKRBC and IFRS17), earnings and solvency implication, with macroeconomic and capital market outlooks to guide strategic and tactical asset allocation.

• Act as the IFRS 17 subject matter expert ultimately, analyzing the investment and ALM impact on par funds, surplus distribution, and financial performance.
• Partner with actuarial, finance, risk and investment teams to integrate ALM insights into product designs, capital planning and risk management, ensuring the par fund remains agile and competitive in evolving market and regulatory environments.
• As one of the key gatekeepers in the business plan and product development process. Ensure robust ALM analysis to support business planning, ensure new products do not introduce undesirable ALM risks.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of IFRS 17 impact on par fund performance, asset-liability matching, surplus management, and financial reporting, proactively identifying risks and opportunities arising from the new accounting standards and capital regimes.

• Responsible for reviewing major changes, of those to ensure the asset behaviour and the investment and ALM strategies being modelled are in line with the reality, and to ensure optimal balance sheet outcomes like avoiding unnecessary accounting mismatches and volatilities.
• Represent the Company in strategic discussions with senior management and board of directors, regulators, auditors, rating agencies, and external stakeholders.
• Champion team leadership, innovation, and operational excellence, enhancing processes, controls, and decision-making through data and technology.

Who we are looking for ?

• Bachelor or above in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering or any other related disciplines
• 15+ years’ hands-on experience in managing ALM for participating funds within life insurance, including asset-liability modelling, surplus management and policyholder dividend strategies. 
• Deep knowledge of IFRS 17 implications for investment and ALM, with experience in implementation and ongoing compliance. Candidates with less proficiency In IFRS17 and HKRBC will also be considered.
• Ability to design and execute long-term investment strategies that balance risk, return, and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams in adopting innovative ALM and investment planning practices. 
• Qualified actuary (or equivalent) with solid experience in ALM for life insurance.
• Professional fluency in English and Chinese.
